Excel Printouts

I've been using the Characteristic Excel workbook supplied from Zeiss for years now to automatically dump results into Excel. For some reason, on all of the programs that used to dump data into excel and on new programs going forward, Calypso suddenly stopped populating the results after the run and the 'Characteristic.xlt' template just comes up blank. We have had no software updates, no windows updates, or any other updates that I am aware of. I've tried everything from restoring to backed up copies of the 'Characteristic.xlt', 'FeatChar.xlt', ReportINI file. Coincidentally, however, the day (and almost exact time) that Calypso stopped reporting to excel, it appears that I had made some changes in my header file (vphead) and saved the file then. I couldn't figure how this exactly could've affected the excel report, but I went back to an old backed up vphead (and userfields.ini to be sure) and that did not do the trick. All .chr, .fet, and .hdr files are still dumping into the results folder as usual. But here is another clue: I use the batch file that floats around here to take the excel report out of the '\results' folder and put into a custom folder, where they sit until i clean them out. If I choose any of those files to open, Excel suddenly bombs and gives me the 'Excel has stopped working error'. But that doesnt happen on any excel document that wasn't made from Calypso on that workstation. I've tried it with macros enabled and not. So I suppose one thing that I have not tried is reinstalling Microsoft office, but I was trying to avoid that and with no windows updates lately, I'm not sure why this suddenly would happen.

Ever happened to anyone/any ideas?

I am also having such issues. Are you using office 2016 by chance? We have gotten blank reports, and out of memory errors. We have one Centermax doing the memory error, and our Sheffield retrofits are doing the blank excel report.

There is a folder in C:\\users\Public\Public Documents\Zeiss\Calypso\data named excel_report. That has to be there for Calypso to be able to parse data to excel. Make sure that is there. If you think it may be corrupted, find a backup copy of it from a recent backup and copy and paste that backup copy to that folder. Make sure your excel is installed on the same HD as Calypso and is working correctly. Lastly, check your rights and privileges and make sure none of the IT tossers has changed something without telling you.

Robert - No, I don't use QC-Calc

Richard - Yes, I have used backed up copies of the excel document and put into that folder with no luck. Privileges are where they should be. Thanks for the advice though.

QC-Calc ended up being my problem, as it was taking the _chr.txt file before excel could grab it. QC-Calc deletes the file it reads, after processing the data.

QC Calc uses the Chr.txt file for it's posting of data. Once it grabs the data, it immediately deletes the chr.txt file. If you want to keep the chr.txt file, you can create a .bat file with dos commands to copy the chr.txt file to another folder. You will name the .bat file inspection_end_pcm.bat This is an external PCM file. These files are ridiculously useful once you get your head wrapped around their structure and how they work. For instance, if I created this batch file and save it to the folder where all my part programs are, it will complete the dos commands in the batch file for all my part programs. But let's say I don't want that. I only want the file to work on selected programs. In that case, I will create a folder and put the part programs I want this file to work with in that folder. Then, I will save the .bat file to that folder. If I only want the .bat file to work with just this one part program, then I will save the .bat in the part program folder. You've got lots of options. This will run the batch file before QC Calc has a chance to grab it and delete it. If you need help with this, QC Calc customer services is pretty decent. Give them a call. If you want more information about the external PCM files, go to the User Guide and search for "external pcm file names" then click on "Reference: Names of the external PCM files. That's a good place to start.
