[Ia...]
Hi, My engineers want a very high resolution for a curve trace of a gear. Step width of 0.0015" or smaller. When I ask for a step width of 0.0015" it will only produce 1854 points which is approximately 0.015" Also when I export the points, it will only export 1854 points. Is there a way I can get a higher resolution than this?
[Ch...]
Try creating your curve with the desired number of 'nominal' points. As opposed to creating your curve then increasing the amount of points in the features.
[Cl...]
Maybe someone else can clarify this, but isn't the 1854 number the nominal amount of points? Multiply 1854 x3 and use that amount.

[Ia...]
This is what I'm getting. Does that look right? I have never seen the blue and red arrows before.
[Ch...]
I get the red and blue arrows from time to time. I don't know what they mean but I probably should.
[Ia...]
Thanks Guys. I'll give this a try. If the results are based on the actual points, why is it reporting on the same number of points as the nominal amount?
[Ri...]
As an FYI I recall with Curve and or Free Form having a calculation issue on surfaces with more than 20,000 points. I cant remember the entire post I read, it may even be on the old forum.
[Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. It will work, but it could take it a while - especially if you are doing any kind of best fit. I had a Free-Form that had close to 100k points that took 8 hours to perform a best-fit (it's all in the accuracy setting).

[Ri...]
I didn't think you could give a Profile measurement though with the Point Cloud? I know that 2019 has made some improvements. In addition, the Profile required a Best-Fit in a few axis, and then I had to use that new Best-Fit alignment to calculate some Positions. I don't believe there is any way around that. [Ke...]
Side Note: I would be grateful for anyone who can provide documentation of best uses for Point Cloud, that does not involve optical of laser scanning
[Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I don't know about documentation, but I use them mainly for when a customer wants a raw points in a text file. Like Israel stated, it can handle a massive amount of points with little to no lag.
