[Ma...]
Hello all I have a question, I would like to know if is possible measure with the plane face of the disk stylus or with the stem of the sphere stylus?
[Ia...]
Measure the plane normally and then measure with two methods you're unsure about. Compare the results.
[Da...]
Please sign in to view this quote. You can qualify the stem of styli. At least I know you can the tungsten one. Take the stem and measure it as a cylinder and check sigma value to be sure. You would might wan't to add additional CMM position after you take the last point of manual qualification. (drive the styli a few centimeters away from reference sphere and push the button on the right joystick)
[No...]
The problem in measuring with the plane face of a disk stylus is that there is a very high chance that it is non-perpendicular to the surface vector of whatever you'll be probing with it, resulting in a faulty measurement. It is possible to calibrate the face, but only manually (you need to edit the stylus data). That calibration would however only be valid for one specific point on the face, with which you could only measure a needle tip reliably. Think about it. That's why some stylus makers sell disk styli with an integrated ruby ball, like this: https://www.itp-probes.com/OnlineShop/O ... bDescId=
