Hello guys

Please help me to know about START ALIGNMENT.

1)What is the start alignment?
2)how to use it / how it works?
3)how to create in calypso?

Thanks in advance.

Start alignment- is coordinate system witch used to start running of program.
I use it if base alignment is difficult for manual take.
Algorithm for programmer:
1. Create base alligment
2. Create elements for start alignment
3. Create start alignment

During a typical manual alignment, Calypso requires you to measure the base alignment features manually, then repeats the measurement in CNC mode, using the manually probed measurements as nominal locations for the features. This improves precision, since it can scan the base alignment features. Unfortunately, in some cases, the base alignment features are time consuming to probe manually, because of excessive probe changes or whatnot.

A Start Alignment solves this by letting you choose other features that are easy to probe manually, then uses that data to calculate the nominal locations of the Base Alignment features and probes them in CNC mode.

To define one, go to Base/Start Alignment on the Measurement tab. Then go to the Start Alignment tab, and define the alignment in the same manner as you would a Base Alignment.

When you are ready to run the program, be sure to check Start Alignment and set alignment to Manual.

Just to build off of what others have said.

The start alignment is only used to tell the CMM where the part is. It does not use it for any true positions or feature alignments. The start alignment does not have to be the datums features and the CMM will not run the start alignment in CNC mode. I use start alignments for parts with multiple pieces that use a fixture that may move between pieces. I try to use the least amount of points possible and easiest features to probe. Start alignment is meant to save time.

If you have decent fixturing and your part location is pretty well set, then start alignment is the way to go.
on almost all my parts i use 3 single points for my part alignment, a point in X, Y, &Z.
Or a 3 Point circle and a point.
leave the planner & rotation empty, and calypso will default to machine coordinates.
this is a big time saver, and your operators will be extremely happy with the new system.

A tip i got from Tom Oakes..........
Click the "manual alignment" button when you create the start alignment, and when your operator selects start alignment, it will default to Manual input.
Just 1 less thing to deal with getting everybody up to speed.

  • 8 months later...
I did a manual start alignment which worked fine. But when I switched over to a auto start alignment it went right to the Base alignment and didn't execute the start alignment. I am looking to do the start alignment when I change pieces but in the CNC mode.

Please sign in to view this quote.

First you have to fabricate base alignment, then only start alignment otherwise the offset between base and start would be correct...
