[Me...]
Greetings! 1st time poster here! i'm a CAM programmer that exports model files for our quality department. my CAM software defaults to .STEP when exporting and apparently Calypso defaults to .STP for importing . is there an option within Calypso for changing the file extension from .STP to .STEP so our quality department can see the .STEP file when importing? [Ro...]
This used to be a problem with calypso, i think it was fixed after rev 5.8 (meaning 5.8 still having the problem). Solidworks has 2 different varieties of STEP, AP204 & AP213 but neither was compatible with calypso straight away. The workaround was to just shorten the extension from STEP to STP and then Calypso would be able to read the files. Nothing else needs to be done, just shorten the extensions. This was a problem for me because our cad files are kept in protected engineering folders that i had read only access to, so to shorten the extension i would have to copy the files and place them into a different folder in a different location, which was 100% against any form of document control standards, which is the reason for the protected folders in the first place....... anyhow, shorten the extension and all will be fine. You could also save files as ACIS (.SAT/.SAB) or DXF files, but if i remember right think those files tend to have bugs more often than STEP files. But then again, when you save a cad model from calypso, it exports in SAB format by default, so maybe calypso would like that better, who knows. [Ow...]
For what it's worth, I've been working with ACIS.SAT cad models for 14 years and even with some very complex models, I have had Zero issues. Richard Shomaker.2, does 6.8 fix keeping the default print-out in the background?
[Da...]
I don't know what's the point about .stp and .step file recognition? If I change to open STEP file in the open file dialog it shows me both file types...
[To...]
Please sign in to view this quote. It didn't use to be that way. The only option was .stp on 5.8 and earlier.

[Da...]
Pravin Dhanwate, STEP is sold as a "plug-in". Ask your local Zeiss support how much it costs.
[Da...]
When you try to load a CAD file, what extension are there? Those would be what you need to export from your design side. We use .stp here too, but that was the option we requested when we first purchased the CMM and software.
[Ia...]
Why does it need to be STEP, is it the only file type you can export?
