Hahaha, that one made my day !! 🤣 🤣 🤣 I had to check the URL field of my browser to confirm that this is indeed the official Zeiss FAQ and not a fake site. 😱 This is as if Microsoft would publish an FAQ on how to gain admin access in Windows. Ok, Calypso's security always was a lame joke, but this is hilarious. So why even bother about passwords at all, when every dork can consult the official FAQ on how to disable it? 😡
[De...]
There can be no doubt that the password security could be enhanced. That said at least it is not plain text anymore. If you need to enforce password security, you can limit permissions on the file using windows users permissions.

[De...]
Technically all they do is keep the dishonest people out, honest people won't even know if it is locked.
[No...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Zeiss has a long tradition of questionable security in their measuring products. In the old days of UMESS 300 the software used a special "poke" command to temporarily unprotect the source code in order to print the line of an error on the screen. Unfortunately they also used to distribute disks with insufficiently tested hotfixes. Sometimes these contained unprotected versions of addressed subprograms. This made the whole code visible and so a 99% honest person could find that poke command and from then on list and even modify the code at will.... an illustrative example why "security through obscurity" is not a good idea. An even better example was UMESS UX: It featured a custom Unix shell command that was able to set the owner and permissions of other files to anything, even when run by a non-privileged user. It was meant to quickly correct messed-up permissions of UMESS files, something that happened from time to time. But with this command and some UNIX knowledge you could essentially change EVERYTHING in the system, gain root access, whatever you liked.
