free form Q i asked before

free form Q i think i asked on the old forum, but didnt get a solid answer.
I have a family of parts that as it gets taller Most of the top surface stays exactly the same, maybe 80%, but some areas change a little bit.
So i have a secondary alignment with only an offset value that moves the FF surface to the new location but what i've been left with is recreating (adding) those peripheral surfaces manually for each part. It's not a big deal, but is time consuming and tedious.
What i can't do, but what i would like to do is just grab each point or points in a group and move them to the new surface. When i do that, when i let go of the point(s) they snap away from the surface the amount of the offset in the alignment (see picture).
I've tried putting the freeform back on the base alignment but that doesnt help the points still snap.
I've tried attaching the scan to a new secondary alignment with nothing in the offset, but that also doesn't help.
Actually whatever i put in the offset doesn't matter, it snaps the same amount

I'm not sure what's really happening there, but everything you do in the CAD window ALWAYS happens in the base alignment. One of the biggest flaws of Calypso in my opinion.

You could do a CAD model comparison and when it gets to that surface pick the new location.

As far as everything happening in the base alignment you could choose Keep Position and select a new alignment and it should update the nominals to the alignment.

It works like this:

If the XYZ nominals of my feature are 0;25;2 in reference to the Base Alignment, and I tell it to use a completely different alignment, it will change the nominals of the feature to match what they should be in reference to the new alignment. If I check "keep position" before changing the alignment, it will keep the nominals the exact same, but move the feature to that nominal location in reference to the new alignment.

This is beneficial when wanting to rotate features on a cylindrical part without using things like Pattern.

I tried it, i thought you had the magic answer, but in my case it didn't work.
even a new scan added after changing alignments "snaps" if i click and drag it on the surface.
I'm thinking last time i tried to address this issue the fix was in a service pack update.......
