[An...]
Hello, I'm a CMM programmer who is new to Calypso and have been using PC-DMIS for some time. I've been having an issue that I could use some help with. In my shop, parts are usually fixtured against rails on the corner of a plate on the CMM. The issue is that the corner of the plate is different between some of our CMM's ie sometimes the corner is on the left and sometimes it's on the right (see diagram). This causes an issue when a program requires flipping the part. When the part is flipped and pushed up against the rails, the position of the part may change because the size of the section of the part now touching the rails may be different after the flip. Therefore, if you program the part on a left corner CMM, then put the same program on a right corner CMM, it will not find the part after the flip. Thus I would need to create different programs for different CMM's. Is there a way I can create one program that would work on either setup? In PC-DMIS, you could just use a read point alignment after the flip. How a read point works is it prompts the operator to manually place the probe, say at the new center of the part, then you can read in the machine position as a read point feature that you can use to change the alignment based on where the operator is saying the part is now. Is there anything similar to this in Calypso?
[Cl...]
I think that here was a discussion about this very subject not too long ago. I believe that Roberto Flores had a solution using PCM? Do a forum search, you should find it.
[An...]
Thanks for the response Clarke. I looked through some of the posts and like you said they seem to all involve PCM. Unfortunately, none of my machines or seats have PCM. Any way around that you can think of?
[Jo...]
Could you use a circle with "own geometry" function enabled ? You would have to put in a large search distance, but then you could use that location in a formula to start the next feature. Or another alignment offset the nominal distances. for the next side. [Ri...]
Can you not create a secondary alignment to help find the center of the part again? I flip parts all the time with no issues. Typically you will need to re-align the part.
[Me...]
why don't you use a start alignment at the beginning and if you turn it over you could put a manual point and do it Origin should workStart 1.1.pngStart 1.2.png
[An...]
Thanks George. I think that would work perfectly. How would I make the point a manual point? Would the manual point be part of the start alignment?
