[Mi...]
One part we purchase frequently where I work is automotive ring gears. I'd like to know if there's a good way to measure the inner diameter of these. The problem is, these gears are made by bending a square bar into a circle and welding it, which leaves them with a lot of ovality. There are times when we'd like to verify the diameter before installation, but I don't know of a good way to do it yet. My thinking is to scan it as a curve, report the length, then calculate the diameter of a circle with that length as its circumference. I'm not super familiar with Curve, though, and I'm not sure if there's even a way to report the length of a closed curve. Is it possible?
[Ow...]
I don't recall using it but, there is a "curve length" characteristic found under size, curve dimensions.
