I am replacing the Drawing Number fields with Operation (not operator). I've selected Operation under Select Printout Header Parameters in Multiple Printout window. I added a text box for the header and another text box for the variable value. However, I am not able to locate the Operation value. Can anyone help a brother out?

The variable would be found in PiWeb under Variable > Data Provider > Measurement > Operation.

If you want to find a particular variable and don't know which flyout it falls under, click Variable > Edit variable expression and there is a search dialogue at the top of the window that comes up.

If you search for, say, Operation, the dialog box search will come up with an item that says Measurement Attribute and then from that drop down you will find Operation highlighted in yellow. Other variables not found in a drop down list (ie. CP or CPK) can just be searched for and selected directly.

Hey Laura, thanks for post but there is no variable name Operation under any of the variable selection choices. Nor does Operation show up under any searches. I know I might be missing something but I've looked a few times.

I was able to edit the properties of the field by copying Brett's qdb code into the properties window.

Funny! Now the Operation variable is located where you stated. And when I search, it shows up. I wonder if, now that I've added it to the header via Brett's link, it is now active....???

I tried it on another seat of Calypso and the same exact thing happened. It wasn't there but after I added the field by pasting Brett's code in, it was accessible.

In that screen-shot I posted, do you see that little light bulb to the right of the userfield? They are hidden and you have to get your cursor over it so that it pops up and gives the bubble help. So you need to hover your cursor all the way to the right to get it to show. The snipet tool didn't show my cursor when I took the screen shot I guess.

It should if you go here and click on that. From that menu grab this and drag it over there. Once there, right click on the whois and enter "PiWeb", but this must be in the ancient and long long Phoenician language. Now don't despair, we have just completed step one of 742 steps.

You have to actually populate the variable in the run screen and send data over once in order to see the variable. If it hasn't actually been sent over, PiWeb doesn't know it exists. And by "sent over" I mean pushed to the PiWeb database file.

I usually do this by just unchecking Clear Existing Results and have the file write to the db as part of the CNC end.

Yes, you can create u_variable in the .ini file. The .txt file, at least in my opinion, is kind of obsolete and not nearly as powerful as the .ini.

Under resources > define custom printout > Editor for user definable printout header variables, go in and create your custom userfields (no more editing the notepad file!) but make sure that you go to the mapping tab and drag your variables into the K fields there. Assigning them a K value gives you the ability to hook them up easily in PiWeb reports, and makes them userfields that you can sort, group and filter by.

In earlier versions of PiWeb, you used to have to go Text box, right click variable, edit variable expression ( i think ), find Name-Value-Pair in the list and type in "u_variable" making sure it's in quotes. This is like, 6.0 era, I think. Just going by memory.
