Duramax XXT re-qualification problems?

Duramax CMM, 3 years old with the XXT head.
All of a sudden, after sitting idle for about 3 weeks, it will not re-calibrate a 5-probe star-probe using qualify passive at certain positions of the sphere and nothing has been changed.

When it get’s to the probe that calibrates on the back side (where the sphere shaft is avoided) it stops and say’s that the probe cannot be successfully calibrated unless 21% of the points are reduced? We can calibrate the probe with Geometry re-qualification (non-scanning) but, it defaults back to Qualify passive, will not stay set to geometry qualify.

We’ve re-referenced the sphere many times in many different positions (135,135 – 135,45 etc) to no avail.
We have manually re-created each probe.

We have 4 Duramax CMM’s that use the same type of reference sphere and the sphere settings are identical between all four CMM’s.
We’ve restarted the CMM and computer twice.
It makes no sense.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Interesting - I've never seen that.

Have you tried to create a new stylus system and seen if it still does it?

Is it localized to one particular stylus system? Can you Passive Qualify the MasterProbe?

For DuraMax and O-Inspects, I tend to always keep the Reference Sphere at 180°, so you might try that.

The Duramax only uses 2 probes, the master and the star probe so, I believe I will try it with a different plate when I get done putting a few other fires out. Thanks for the suggestion

I had a similar situation where I couldn't get a stylus to qualify that had been qualified hundreds of times before, I came to terms with that some how the stylus file had become corrupt so I deleted it and recreated the stylus and it qualified first try.
