Free form surface filtering.

Measuring a surface profile using the CFS (white light). I'm scanning two planes, and recalling the points into a free form surface. The surface I'm scanning is ground steel. What is the best filter setting for this. What is Morphological, (opening/closing)?

morphological, is like a mechanical filtration through the probe ball.
If the probe ball does not reach into the wave trough of the surface, the surface is mechanically smoothed.
A morphological filter is usually used to correct the effect of the probe tip on raw data!
I can't tell you whether this has any meaning in optical sensor technology.
I only measure tactilely.

Good Luck
