Is there a way to transfer all probe positions on CMM to Offline program

Is there a way to transfer all my probes on my CMM to my offline calypso program. Or do I have to manually put each position in the offline system. Sometimes I will create a new position on the CMM, then I have to remember to put it in the offline system.

It's really straight forward. In the Stylus System Management window, in the Stylus System Function section, click Export to export them, then move the .pcf files to the Offline seat computer, and in the same section of the same window, use Import.

This will give you all the stylus systems in your offline seat but WILL NOT let you get crash detection in simulation. The reason we build separate or new stylus system is to fill in the blanks for simulation (also it is a different file type). All the CMM knows about the Styli is the offset from MasterProbe and the diameter (or radius) it does not know what is in between. So if you do not use simulation then importing the Stylus System to the offline seat is a quick option. If you want to see your program run and check for crashes you need to built the stylus system using the creator. I name the Stylus System and Styli the same on the offline seat as the CMM that way when I bring the program over to the CMM it just works.

Good point Ted!

I DO have an offline seat, but I've only ever used it for programming and not simulation, so I've never really worried about the stylus systems being well represented. I alway proved out programs on one of the CMM's.

You can. you just need to export the RC list. It's at text file. Then create your stylus system with the creator. Make sure when you import the SSC file, you name the #1 styli the exact same thing as the first Styli from your RC list. Then import the RC list and click the stylus system button above it. Its kind of hard to explain without taking some screen shots. I'll see if I have time tomorrow.

Ok so the first thing you need to do is open the stylus system window. From here you will select the "Rotate stylus to new Position" icon located at the top of the window. Its the one that looks like a stylus with a "U" shaped arrow under it.

Next, in the new window that you have opened, select the "Styli list" tab. There should be a dropdown list with the names of all your stylus systems. select the one you want to export. It might say something like "create new table?". Just say yes. Then select the save icon just above the table that is generated and this will prompt you to save the RC list as a text file. Save this somewhere you can access it on your offline seat.

Now import the SCC file for the corresponding stylus system if you haven't already, and name the #1 position the same as the #1 spot in your RC list. Now go back to the RC styli list on the offline seat. Make sure the stylus system you want to update is showing in the drop down list. Select the folder icon and import the text file you generated. Select the stylus system icon at the top and you should get a window pop up asking if you want to Overwrite, Update, or New Stylus system. Select "Update".

You then should get another window to transfer the stylus data. This wants to know what each position is related to. Select the #1 stylus in the drop down next to each position. This is important to ensure each angle has the proper geometry for the simulation to work.

After that you should be done! This can be a little tricky. Let me know if it doesn't work for you.

Thank you for the detailed instructions, It's been a very long time since I took the Planner course.
It works like a charm for regular stylus systems, but not so much for my star probes. All the rotations are good but there must be another step needed to get the stylus data right.
I figured out that stylus 1 must always be in the A0, B0 position, which is typical for non-star type stylus systems. My star systems have different diameter probes with up to 28 stylus positions. It just seems to copy XYZ, radius, and vector data from stylus 1 to the other styli. Very frustrating.
Any new tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

With the help of my buddy Tom Oakes, we figured out how I screwed up the process.
I was confusing MY stylus numbers with those in the .ssc file. Thanks for the help Tom!
