Pattern Indexing

Has anyone figured out or know if there is a way to index alphabetical instead of numerical when creating patterns?

I don't think so. Multi-dimensional patterns are basically nested loops with an internal counting variable, so using numbers for indexing is a natural thing to do. Using letters would require additional efforts in programming.
