[Me...]
I am trying to report "Profile of a line". When I attempt to do so the "Profile of a line characteristic won't allow me to select any Line Features. What am I doing wrong? I believe I used to be able to do this in the past. I do not have a curve license. Phil
[To...]
Calypso requires a curve for line profile. Not sure why. I've always felt that circles and lines qualify to be evaluated using line profile. FYI. Whenever you are selecting a feature to be used in a characteristic, there are icons along the top, above the list of features. These icons represent what types of features are allowed. They also serve as a filter. By clicking one of the icons, Calypso will present you a list of only those types of features. Makes is easier to find a feature from a large group of features. [Me...]
This is what I figured but needed to ask anyways. And yes, I am aware of the feature selector at the top of the Selection window, but thank you for pointing that out. I am certain in older versions of calypso I was able to select a line to report profile. I have been trying to get a quote from Zeiss for a Curve license going on 4 weeks. I once worked with a guy who used "Curve form" to report profile of a line using a curve. When speaking with a Zeiss software tech he told me to "NOT" use a Curve form to report profile. Can you explain why? Just Curious. Thank you Tom
[To...]
I can't remember Calypso ever being able to do it but I can only remember from about 4.4 or so. Not sure about the Curve Form other than it's the only way I know of to get a decent plot. I seem to recall the results were the same as line profile but I don't remember that either. [An...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Profile always requires a datum reference frame.
[To...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Andreas, I was referring to Phillip's comment about being able to do Line Profile on a line (without Curves) and I don't recall ever being able to do this. But I disagree with your statement. Surface and Line Profile can be specified with NO DRF. At least in ASME Y14.5.

[To...]
Andreas, Many people on the forum have said there is no difference between the two however, I've never been able to get the same results. Similar contrast to Surface Profile with NO DRF on a Plane and Flatness. I've gotten closer results with these two. To elaborate, I can only say that profiles with NO DRF are not constrained to any datum and are evaluated as Minimum Feature, so it would make sense that they are the same as straightness and flatness. However, Curves are evaluated as LSQ and can't be changed to Minimum Feature. Generally. I don't worry because I have Curves and Free Form Surfaces, so if the drawing says NO DRF, I choose "No Datum Reference Frame" in Calypso. This choice is only available with the Curves or FFS option. Hopefully, some of the others will chime in.
