[Me...] Posted January 24, 2019 Share Posted January 24, 2019 Contura G2 Vast XXT probing system I started the morning off just fine. The CMM came up and ran with no issues through two different parts using two different probe configurations. On the third part after switching back to the first probe configuration, the program halted about 75% through and threw an error stating that the probe wasn't calibrated. I recalibrated the suspect probe angle and reran the program, the same thing happened, but this time on a different probe angle. This time I picked up the master probe and located the cal sphere, then recalibrated the entire probe list. No joy, the CMM and Stylus System Tabs both stayed red. I then rebooted everything including the controller, same results after all angles were calibrated. They run through the calibration and the results window says that they're qualified, but the tabs stay red and the program won't run. I closed that program and open another that uses that same probe configuration and the same results, red CMM and Stylus System tabs. I have a call into tech support but I wondered if anyone here had seen this issue. I don't think it's hardware because the CMM goes through all the motions to qualify both the master probe and all of the probe angles, but the data isn't registering or being stored. Never figured out what happened but, after shutting the CMM and the computer off for a good 10 minutes and qualifying all the probes, everything was fine, hasn't happen again. [Me...] Posted January 25, 2019 Author Share Posted January 25, 2019 I just got off of the phone with tech support. Apparently on very rare occasions a probe file gets corrupted. the fix is to delete that probe angle and recreate it using the exact same name and probe number. I tried shutting down, including the controller, but it did't cure the issue. So, if it happens again, you may need to delete the angles that are losing their cal and recreate them. [Me...] Posted January 28, 2019 Author Share Posted January 28, 2019 Solution to issue: I ended up taking a snip/screen shot of all of the probe names and angles in the file, then deleting the entire probe file. Then it had to be recreated using EXACTLY the same probe file name and each probe angle had to be recreated again using EXACTLY the same name and angles. Then I had to manually touch off and qualify every probe in the file; only 34 of them. What a huge pain in the rear, but all is right in the world again. [Me...] Posted April 8, 2019 Author Share Posted April 8, 2019 OK. I fought and struggled with this for several more weeks and finally have a real resolution. The XXT was the real issue. It was several years old and I have no idea how it was treated prior to my arrival, but I suspect that it had been smashed and bashed. I had the XXT probe head replaced and the issue of corrupting probe files went away with it. I personally don't know how a hardware device can corrupt software, but apparently it will.
