LineScan Reverse Engineering

I have a LineScan 2-50 on a Contura. What settings would provide the best possible resolution for reverse engineering an involute spline on a steel drive shaft? The results we have been getting have too much "noise" to produce a viable STL file. Thanks.

Not an Line Scan expert by any means. Have you tried anything to reduce the reflectivity of the part? I know there is a product you can spray on the part to do that. I've also heard some spray deodorants have a fine powder in them and that will work too.

I believe the product Tom is talking about is Developer that they use for Visible Dye Penetrant. It is in an aerosol can. I have used this before when we were doing a 3D image of some piping for a large assembly so we could create a print from it for placement of the piping. It worked great. You can get it from Grainger.
