[Br...]
I came in the other day and found a spring on the granite top of our CMM with a Vast XT head. I traced it to the probe socket. It's one of the two springs that keep the door pulled shut. This is a MT/VAST socket. I pulled the curtain back and found the broken end of the spring and I can see where the spring attaches to the door. If I were to get a replacement spring does anyone know how (or if) it can be replaced? I only have the sockets that are in use so I'm unable to take one off to get a better look to see if there's a way to get it apart. From what I can see it looks totally sealed with no way to get a new spring hooked back up. It's working fine with one spring but at some point I may be pulling the door shut on any probe change. Or just end up letting it stay open. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
[No...]
To replace the spring you have to disassemble the socket. It's not hard to do, but you'll probably want to dismount it from the rack first. First pull both ends of the curtain off. They're just fixed with some velcro. Take the curtain out of the socket. Now turn the socket upside down and locate the four small screws in the corners. Unscrew them. Turn the socket upright again and carefully pull the two curtain guides and the slider upwards out of the socket. The guides are held in place by small dovetails. Now you should be able to see where the springs are mounted. The rest should be self-explanatory.
[Br...]
Thank you Norbert. That's what I was looking for. I looked at the underside but at the angle I was looking still hid the screws, it looked glued together. Once I got my head down under the holders I could see the screws on the corners. Now if I can locate some springs I'll be good.
[No...]
When our springs broke a few years ago we found it wasn't cost-effective to buy new ones, because they were only sold in bigger quantities and we had no other use for that spring type. So we told our purchaser to ask one of our suppliers for a handful of samples. 😃 We still live off that small stock.
