Result offset of points taken

Here's a simple problem I keep having. This mostly happens with lines, taken with single points. I click on the cad model to make my feature and when enough points taken a result line appears. But way too often the line is offset in some random direction. How do I fix this? Here's a photo for an example:

Can't open the picture you attached.

Are you picking space points? Is the surface you are picking points on curved?

If the surface is flat you can define a line on a plane. Can you attach a simple screen shot?

That's an interesting screen shot because the edge is highlighted as if you're creating the feature through the CAD menu. You should only need to pick 2 points to get a line. Are you picking points on a surface or using edge data?

I think it's related to what space axis you're creating your feature in and what the orientation of the surface you're picking is relative to the coordinate system. Try changing your space axis after you pick the points.

Could be Calypso is rounding off the nominal values too much. Go to
Extras >> Settings >> Measurement >> Nominal
and look at the "Roundoff meas. for preset nominal value" setting.

Hello Nicholas,

Actually if i understand your problem correct its easy to solve. When you create a line from features menu, open and start to take points from CAD data Calypso use points instead of space points. The difference between them is points is always perpendicular to closest axis of the base alignment up to they have been measured by physically. But when you use space point from CAD its automatically get the vector from the surface that you click. At the picture down below point 1 is a space point and point 2 is a point. So you can see the difference between them. And when you want to take a line on a CAD model with manual clicking and if the plane that you get the line is angled(try to take another line which is perpendicular to one of the axis and you will see there will be no problem) to base alignment its normal that you have a line that is offset ed. But when you measure it, it will be fitted to the model. I hope i understand your question and this will help you. 1235_2f4d6a744b537ce430c1da1639565566.jpg

I believe Peter is on the right track. When you take points on a model or part, the Nominal rounding settings from the factory, will round to the closest .X place decimal. Ideally, you'd probably like to not have any rounding but at that is not an option on the systems settings. It is possible in the Features Settings Editor to NOT round. Anyway, depending on the units, having the number round to 3 or 4 places is probably the best option.

An easy way to verify this is to look at your Nominal values. If they are rounded to X.X000, then that is probably the issue.

I found what you're pointing at and I believe it is working now. If something still doesn't act right I'll be back for more questions 😃

Thank you all
