Programs in metric and inch

We have several customers who deal with metric prints and models which we convert to inches for in process operations. Is there a way to create a CMM program in metric without having to go into settings/environment to toggle the mm/inch settings? My fear is that by doing this I may be changing nominal values in other programs that may be open in the background. I'm looking for a way to have one program in metric with the default setting in environment to stay in inches for all other programs. Thanks!

In your program, go to Resources - Features Settings Editor - Units - Length. This will change the units for this program only.

I create template programs for inch and metric that locks in the units. Open the correct template and file save as the new program and I am good to go. Not to mention the template turns on stuff that I like, additional printout results, warning limits at 80% and so forth.

Be careful though. If there are any formulas in the program, they wont be converted. Someone can correct me if this is changed in 2018, but in older versions changing the units doesn't apply to formulas.

I always set the units through Feature Settings. I used to leave as default unit until I had to work with metric units. Learned hard way what happens when you have a metric program with formula for Zactual-30 and then have environment set to inches. 3mm probes can fly pretty far in a straight down full speed sudden stop. Luckily I didn't break the XT.
