[ZE...] Posted March 27, 2018 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Hi folks, I have TP20 on RDS, Spectrum machine, Calypso 6.2 (going to update to 6.4 soon). Problem is, that regularly, after the module change (automatic or manual - doesnt matter) CMM wont read the probe when it triggers a touch in any direction. It doesnt even light the LED diode on RDS when you touch anything with the probe. This problem perishes after another position with RDS is set after the change. Another possibility is to tap the probe firmly until it gets back to work! You can imagine the beautiful collisions in CNC run. We have a lot probes crashed thanks to it. We bought another RDS, new RDS adapter plate, new TP20 body and new TP20 modules. Without anything changed. XXT head on the same RDS works normally. Any ideas? [ZE...] Posted March 27, 2018 Author Share Posted March 27, 2018 We also have the same setup on an Eclipse and don't typically have any problems, but occasionally it will act as you describe. And also a tap on it will clear it up. I've encountered issues around magnetism. I read on another forum that sometimes the contact pins will back out during a collision. I found that true at the last place I worked, but are easily pushed back into position (below flush) with a small punch. I don't know if it's a viable fix, but it did seem to help. But after we bought new modules the issue still persist. If I tried this modules on other machine, they works excellent. [ZE...] Posted March 27, 2018 Author Share Posted March 27, 2018 To be honest, i just mash the connection side of the TP-20 into the granite (Slide, not hit) and that always pushes the crash pins into place just perfect. i feel it also cleans the contact surface since granite must have some sort of abrasion spec no matter how well its polished. If they are "In", thats much harder to deal with. You load a 3x40 or larger probe or extension into the module and you have to "feel around" the guts by moving the probe and physically push the pins out. Then of course after you push them out, you mash it against the granite to set them flat. I really like TP-20's, they are incredibly accurate and incredibly durable. [ZE...] Posted March 27, 2018 Author Share Posted March 27, 2018 Having a similar issue @Jan Szeruda. We also have a Spectrum machine(bought in 2003) with the RDS head and TP20 probes. I'm starting to think this is not hardware related. Unrelated to this issue, over the past year and half/two years. We have replaced the CMM head/ bought a new adapter plate and probe module. But we did not start seeing this issue until we updated to 6.4 in august. After a few weeks we started breaking 0.6 probes. The cmm is reading that the probe is there due to the magnet but not triggering a probe �hit� when touched. We qualify our probes every Sunday night and clean our modules with Renishaw cleaning kit regularly. If we see the issue, we do a manual pickup without releasing or touching the probe it will start working fine again. Others times we do an auto change store probe then load probe and the probe works as expected. Going to update to the newest patch of 6.4 after thanksgiving to see if that will make any difference. This issue is hard to gage due to it being sporadic for us. It may do it 3/10 runs or 1/100. I�m just not sure what else it could be. Normally, I have a very good results, but now after the problems started, I have a sigmas at very high numbers. 5 microns like yours are not a problem for our stylis. Have even worse. And as I mentioned bellow, we buy part by part practicaly new cmm. [ZE...] Posted March 27, 2018 Author Share Posted March 27, 2018 Yesterday, I have ordered Colapso to take a styli, and as usualy, the styli doesnt respond to touch. So I tried to repeat the change, then exit Colapso, power down the machine and PC, and after a hour aprox power on just the cmm and engines. And now wait for it ... no response again! We regularly clean the contact surfaces of the probe bodies and modules with the Renishaw cleaning kit as well as the adapter plate connections to the RDS. If it is steel, it might have a strong magnetic field on it. Check it with a Gauss meter. De-magnitize the part before running it again. [Me...] Posted November 22, 2018 Share Posted November 22, 2018 I have the same problem with new contura zeiss 2018 with calypso 6.6 After change Tp20 module in MCR20 rack the probe does not react to contact, after a few taps with my finger it starts working again. Sometimes he crash in the calibration ceramic sphere during calibration. I do not think there is a magnetic field around the sphere calibration . The machine zeiss and all accessory zeiss and renishaw is brand new!!
