New Master probe

Hi,

anyone knows how to create a new Master probe?

I have one in use and I also have one identical (reference plate + stylus) that I would like to add just for test.

One of our operators just dropped our master probe the other night. I wasn't exactly sure the right protocol for replacement. I ordered a replacement red dot master stylus for the master probe since it was far cheaper and the adapter plate is still good, but wasn't sure if it needs to first be qualified to the sphere referenced with a different master probe first, and if so whether that master probe needs to first be qualified to the sphere, etc. Or if you just stick it on and reference the sphere, and the software figures out the rest.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Speaking for a VAST / XT head, you need to establish the master probe length and it doesn't hurt to intentionally qualify it once. But referencing the sphere and re-qualifying the master probe is about the same thing.
I don't know about anything else to be taken care of, except of course that its physical attributes (diameter, rigidity etc.) should be the same. If there were any magic rituals to be performed prior to using it, I think I would remember being told so at our training 11 years ago 🤠

Side note:
Since we upgraded our old MC machine with a Promax magazine, we use a much shorter master probe than the original one (otherwise we wouldn't be able to measure the holder positions). A maintenance tech once told me that by using such a short MP, the CMM would apply the wrong CAA corrections. I'm not sure if that is true. Why would I need to establish the MP length if the system wasn't able to adapt itself?
