Undimensioned Surfaces

I've got a note on an F35 print that's asking for a profile for Undimensioned Surfaces. Now I've only been working with Calypso for a couple weeks. I've been using PC Dmis for the past decade. And with PCD, I could create a feature set that included every point on the part, then create a profile of that feature set. It was very simple. But I haven't figured out how to do this in Calypso. So far, it seems I can only include one feature in a profile. I've tried doing a profile of a general surface but can't seem to figure out how to analyze it to show me which features are in or out of tolerance. I'm kind of at a loss.
So can someone tell me the best way to go about answering this profile dimension?

Thanks.

As far as I know, you would need the Free Form Surfaces option to report more than one surface at a time.

Some people will pepper their part with Space Points and select Space Point Distance as a profile check 1 point at a time. There are ways to mask the point results and only report the max distance, however a formula to convert value to absolute values, find the max and then multiple by 2. Yes, max deviation time 2.

Matt
Creating feature sets (yellow pizza icon) is one of the things that PCD does very easy and well, that Calypso doesn't do at all.
I could go on but ill stop myself at that......
both programs can do things that the other cannot, or things that 1 can do easily and the other can do only by advanced means.
Good luck, don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.

Robert, it's going to take me a while to discover all the quirks of Calypso. I'm learning very quickly that there are quite a few things that it can't do that PCDmis can. And there are obviously things that Calypso can do that PCDmis can't. So I'll have to reprogram my brain to function in the world of Calypso.

Thanks for the reply, Robert. I'm sure I'll be using you guys' experience a lot in the weeks/months to come.

One method of doing this is to make multiple profile characteristics and have each one use the same datum reference frame.

Then use the 'Maximum Result' option on the menu under Size -> More and choose all the profile characteristics that you created.

This will provide a maximum profile result. Profile will work for most features with the notable exceptions of torus and unless you have the option 'free form surface'. Point is also one of the available features that can be used in a profile characteristic.

Since all characteristics are being checked to the same DRF you still maintain simultaneous requirement, so I am not sure why so many people act as if this is not possible.

Calypso may not do things the same way as other software but there is generally a way if your willing to use the tools it does have. After all, If you expect to use a wrench as a hammer your going to be disappointed every time.
