Gap to Tooth Measurment

I would like to know if there is a way to change to measure in tooth. I know there is a button that says measure gap or tooth but i notice that just changes the tooth numbering convention. I would like when i check to measure the left flank that it is the left flank of the tooth not of the gap. Thanks in advance.
