Diamond Probe Tips, Whats best for Bare Aluminum?

Hello,

I have a part here that is post machined to remove plating and leaves bare aluminum. I posted in the past month about having the aluminum remove onto the Probe tip and destroying it.

I was informed to look into Diamond tips.. With them being decently expensive, What would the best one be and would it not build up material from the Aluminum if I were to scan.

Thanks in advance.

Silicon Nitride (SN) probes have more lubricity and will pick up a lot less aluminum over time. The price for SN probes are slightly higher than the standard Aluminum Oxide probes.

To be more specific, are you talking about the Diamond COATED ones at roughly $600, or the basic1K Diamond ones.
Looking to get two, a 3mm and if they have a 1.5mm.

🤣

If you're not concerned about price, I would go with the diamond stylus, especially if you are running high volume production on these parts. Otherwise, as Tom recommended, silicon nitride is your best bet.

Silvio,

I think the coated probe is fine eonugh and it is in germany 30% under the diamond probe. We measured over thousend parts without defect on the prob or on the parts. With the old probe(ruby or silicium) there wer defects on the polished surface and material on the probe.
