"418 Problem with floating mean value formation"

Hi, forum! Does anyone know what this error message means? Occasionally when the stylus makes contact with a surface, it stalls and takes several seconds to register a hit. When you view the vectors, this initial hit is often absent. I'm curious as to whether it's affecting our accuracy or not. If anyone can contribute, it would be most appreciated!

Our CMM is a model MMZ-B (running Calypso 2016), equipped with an RDS articulating head and a Vast XXT sensor.

This is a indication the controller can't make sense of the data provided by the XXT. It could be the head is damaged or it could also be a dirty adaptor plate. Your best bet is to call into Zeiss and having Service take a look at it.

We have seen some strange behavior with the vectors when a person doesn't retract off the work pc perpendicular to the work surface. E.g. the last point on a circle feature was taken and instead of retracting the probe off the circle feature, the person just raised the stylus not retracting 1st. This throws Calypso for a loop and the vectors were all screwed up.
