[To...]
I have a friend running 5.4. They shut down the company power over the weekend for some maintenance but did not shut down the CMM. This morning, they restarted Calypso but they got the message about being connected to a different stylus system. You know the one that if you re-connect, they'll need to create all of their stylus systems again. Does anyone have a solution that will get them re-connected without having to do all the extra work? [Ow...]
If they don't have a copy of their config file saved somewhere for backup, you might try doing a system restore on the computer. If there hasn't been a system restore point set in a long time, they might lose a lot of stuff done since that time but, usually, the windows system creates restore points when updates are downloaded and if it's connected to the internet, that happens frequently. [To...]
Yeah, no restore available. I will make that suggestion to protect him in the future.
[No...]
Ask them if VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) is active on their Windows system. If it is, they can probably restore an older copy of the config folder by following the steps in this link: https://wiki.carleton.edu/pages/viewpag ... Id=9968143 If they don't have VSS active, they should consider doing so. It eats up a certain amount of disk space, but it can really save your day.
