I'm looking for suggestions on how to handle being told: "Your numbers can't be right because scanning collects too much data for the machine understand." [Da...] Posted September 5, 2018 Share Posted September 5, 2018 You must be talking to an old tool and die guy. They never trust anything that isn't a dial indicator. The only thing I can think of is to describe to them a pin that must fit into a drilled hole. The pin is out of round with a tri-lobe shape. A micrometer measurement will give you a false reading of the true diameter since it is only contacting two points around the pin. With a CMM, you can measure as many points around the diameter as you want, which will give you a better picture of what the actual diameter is given the proper evaluation (minimum circumscribed). Although generally, there's not much you can say that will convince these old tool and die guys that the data is sound. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
