Planner - Copy Stylus System

Let's say you have an RDS Stylus System that was created with Stylus System Creator and over time, it has evolved to having a large number of various angles.

Next, you create another SSC Stylus System and you want it to have all of the same angles as the first one. I know I can play around in the Styli List window of the RC List window and I can get all of the angles from the text file that I saved from the original stylus system but it seems like it's the "long way around". It's just not a clean process.

Does anyone already have a list of steps created to do this process as Zeiss may have intended?

The RC List is the way to go and it's not that bad. When I've trained Planner/Simulation, I go through the build process of a Stylus System with RDS and RC List is integral to that process. Saving the RC List file is a must, if for no other reason then to have a backup file. It makes taking that Stylus System from the offline station to the machine very easy.

PCF files were a easy way to create backup files for Stylus Systems. They don't contain probe data that can be used but they do provide Stylus System names and individual Styli names. If you've got 3 machines that you want matched up exactly the same, PCF files are a handy way of making common Stylus Systems for all the machines. As Tom said, PCF files are next to useless with Planner/Simulation but in the real world, it's a good idea whenever you add to or create a new Stylus System, create a PCF file for it and stash it away.

Typically, if you said export your pcf from the machine and then import it into Planner, I would say this would work for rotations but would not contain the CAD models of the probes so it wouldn't do well for collision detection in Planner. It also wouldn't have the new probe radius info. However, it seems that if you export the pcf in Planner and then import the pcf to create a new stylus system, it appears that the export file contains everything, even the CAD details.

However, the use of pcf's will not compensate for a change in probe radius. I know I'm rambling all over the place and got side-tracked by Clarke's suggestion, but I did learn something new today.
