Jacquelynn,
Are you doing an automatic stylus system change? I have put a stylus system in the rack wrong before and get a similar type of message. Usually I had it turned 180 degrees off.

I'm guessing that it is only happening with that stylus system, and not others. Maybe Owen Long, Tom Oakes, or some of the other seasoned veterans has the answer...sorry I don't have any other ideas.

Clean the adapter plate off. Chances are there is some debris that is either stuck onto the small ball bearings or on the magnetic plate.

I get this problem from time to time and it is not because you have dirty components. Our brand new Accura started doing this the first day we had it. It still happens at about the same frequency 3 years later and it is about impossible to have a cleaner lab than we do. I have called Zeiss more than once about this and always get the same generic response; clean your stuff and there is no ways it's a Zeiss issue. I get this problem randomly and across different probe systems. In my opinion it is cause by quality issues with the VAST XT Gold heads. My remedy is to put the probe in the rack and use the automatic stylus system change. I have never had this error when I do an auto stylus change, as if it overrides that error or something.

I have also had the issue but found out that I may have lost one of the balls that make contact. There are a couple of configurations so you need to make sure that it is the correct one. See attached for configuration.
