Updating software and computer.

We are upgrading our Calypso software and will be installing to a new computer. Our current Calypso version is 5.2 Service Pack 6 (I know... OLD) and we're upgrading to Calypso version 6.4.08 Service Pack 3.

I want to know the best procedure to ensure we have everything properly updated, and transfer all measurement programs, settings, and stylus system setups.

Can anyone provide any insight into this for me please?

Thank you very much!

The folders you will definitely want to backup and transfer over, are the Config, Protocol, and Workarea folders. I also exported backup lists of all our probe files just in case, when I switched over. Now I had trouble moving them over to the newest version, as it looks like they dropped the version number from the new version now. I.E the Calypso 5.2-5.4 folders etc etc. now appears to be simply named Calypso. So that's just something to keep in mind, someone may have some other details but as long as you hold your backups of those folders, you should be pretty much all set. There should be a sheet that comes with the disc, with the base install instructions too.

Also you may have to manually qualify all your styli before using them since you are jumping more than 2 versions. This may not be an issue but I think it used to be.

I just went and downloaded the latest. I see Calypso is actually now up to Version 6.6, and GearPro is Version 6.0. I have them both so I will use those when setting up the new computer... which will be very soon I hope! 😃

I don't remember exactly what version it was but, around 5 year ago, there was some issues with old gear pro programs not working correctly with the newer file paths in newer versions of Gear-pro and also some changes in AGMA 2000 standards not working right without X-modifications....?
So, do yourself a favor and DO NOT get rid of the old computer until you're sure everything is working like it should.

When i went from 5.8 to 6.2, i dont think i had to copy my header files.
I think Calypso finally found a way to copy them automatically.

Kevin, we recently purchased a second Contura, so we converted our G2 to 6.4 so they would be running the same version of Calypso, and replaced the original computer at the same time. However, our license dongle stopped working for whatever reason. We ended up calling support and they guided us through the process of getting the folders we needed, (which we actually didn't know and they suggested the ones we would need after asking a few questions). Anyway, why not call support, since you just paid for it when you purchased the upgrade. It might save you some headaches.

I did talk with tech support this morning, they did tell me 6.6 wouldn't have a license available until July 18 I believe. We both agreed they need to note on the download that something is not available for full release yet, only beta.

Owen, they have gear pro here, but have never used it, so I'm just installing it fresh.

I was going to call back and ask them another question.... (I typically start in the forums because history has shown I get better answers much fast in the forum than but calling for software support!) but as long as I'm in here, does this original box have a physical hardware dongle in it that I will have to put in the new computer???

Most likely there is a small USB dongle. In some cases it could be inside the workstation (USB port directly on motherboard).
