Saving Cad-Wire Frame to open in Solidworks

After creating a large program with feature recognition, I used to be able to go to cad and select modification, combine cad features and then save the wireframe model as an ACIS (.sat) file and then open it up in Solidworks.

Now, when I open it up in Solidworks 2018, all I get is an imported surface that I can do nothing with.

Anybody else ever do this with any luck in any version of Solidworks?

have you tried using feature recognition?
I am using an older version but that's what I always did before.
