[Ru...]
I made a program for this Bearing Cone. I need to make another program for a different bearing cone but its mostly the same except for dimensions. When i load the cad model and bring over the Macro'd Features and Characteristics is there a way just to re select the items on the new cone to correspond with the new cone. Like Datum A on the old cone and all i need to do is re select the new Datum A on the new cone. Sorry i am a noob Thanks Ken
[Ow...]
Clear old model, load new model, click on cad model comparison and then compare, it will ask if you want to set it to the base alignment and say yes. Now click compare and it will show you the differences and ask you if you want to change the nominal's. usually answer yes, but do them one at a time. Model has to be the orientated the same way. The features that give you a systems error message are not comparable - slots, curves, torus, free forms etc. Circles Cylinders planes points - the normal stuff should work just fine
[Ro...]
Ive never had any real luck using the cad model comparison tool. the only thing i use it for is when swapping out nearly identical cad models (rev changes) i use comparison to make the circle, point, line jump to the new cad model and highlight the surface. Other than that i never had any luck with the comparison tool actually changing nominals or vectors to the new corrected values. (Full disclosure, i had Jason J at the Brighton training facility submit a bug report on the comparison tool for me after going step by step with him trying to get it to work. after about 6 months the only response we got was "must have been your fault") I prefer to re select the feature, then use the paint brush tool to update all the measurement strategies to to the new feature, then swap out the features in characteristics, then delete the old features. Its kinda weird to learn, you first click on the feature (Circle 1) you wish to copy from, then select all the things you wish to copy, then you select all the features (Circle 2) you want to update and hit OK and all the strategies are saved. it can be difficult in the more complex programs, but its the best option i have found. [Ma...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Owen thanks for this information I was browsing for how to update CAD from rev to rev and this worked perfectly. Only had to adjust the updated models CS to match the existing base alignment and everything fell into place.
[Ri...]
I frequently use CAD/Cad Model Comparison when I write part family programs offline for customers. One tip, hint, top secret tribal knowledge bit of lore, that I use is to turn off the roundoff function for Nominals. If you go to Features Settings Editor/Units/Round off for Nominals you'll see a list with all the settings available. At the top of the list is "Off". Select that for the Measurement Plan, save, and start your day.
[Ke...]
CAD model comparison is definitely the bomb for part families. It's a time saver, and guarantees consistent evaluation methods (except for applying "lessons learned" #ReviewEverything) Thanks to Richard for the round off tip!
