Anyone have any tips on flipping a part in the middle of the program? I understand how to create a new alignment and place the programmable stop. Then, for my side 2 I have new alignment features that are in manual mode. My issue is changing back to CNC mode on side 2. Any feature I base off the side 2 alignment seems to go to the wrong location. I'm sure it has to do with the orientation but I've tried changing my spatial and cannot figure out my next move. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!

Could be a few different things.
A few Questions:
Same probe doing both sides?
Clearance plane flipping with it?
Using a line for planar?
Can we get pictures of both alignments?

Same probe for both sides.
No issue with the clearance plane.
Yes, using a line for planar...Will that mess things up?

This is the alignment I tried first. It represents how the part will be facing on side 2 so the planar I have as -Z....I tried the same alignment from side 1, which is the same thing just +Z. Manual probing works fine, but anything in CNC after the flip does not work.

I think I got it now. Just changed the planar rotation to a plane which now makes sense. Usually I like to keep base alignments as simple as possible but I think I understand why you need a plane for this application. Thank you Owen!

has anyone mastered measuring on both sides of the flip yet? For example, measuring the distance between two planes where only one plane is accessible at a time?

We have rings that symmetrical on either side, so I take the height of the ring (OAL) and subtract the distance to the plane on one side, then subtract the plane distance after the flip from the remainder using result element.

I am really intrigued about the Flip the part threads that are running on the forum. The parts I have have such tight tolerances that I really can't see a way to do what you guys are suggesting with out being able to use the same surfaces as alignments AND rerunning that alignment for the second side. It seems like you want to flip with NO variation in the alignment.

I can't imagine using a flip on tight tolerance parts, like grind work. The tightest stuff we flip and take a secondary alignment on is +-.005", if possible.

A suggestion to a work-around for getting the distance between and a top and bottom plane without flipping: If your fixture has a flat plane that is accessible, you can measure that as the bottom plane because that is essentially the same distance. This will not work however, if you are interested in the form of the bottom plane (you will need to flip and measure).

Flipping the part is possible. You will need a stop in the program so you can actually flip the part and then create a new alignment system (NOT A NEW BASE ALIGNMENT SYSTEM).
Word of caution on stops for flips or rotations for XXT heads...
Your stop needs to be at the start of the step after the the flip especially if you are measuring a feature that may air scan and go back in and measure it again automatically (cone, circle, cylinder). I put the stop at the end of the step before the flip the stop prompted me to flip the part and then tried to scan the feature that I had flip to the other side and I broke a stylus.
