selected feature extrapolated geometry

You can go to modify cad entities then go to hierarchy, find the feature in the list and uncheck the box, or delete it. The features highlight when you select them .

Dave,
There is no unwanted feature to delete. The unwanted planes are visual only (and disappear when a different feature is selected), not permanent fixtures.

Zach,
That is not what I want. That gets rid of highlighting the selected feature. I still want to highlight the selected feature. I just do not want it to create extra surfaces that are not there that visually get in the way of things behind it.

Attached is a picture with a different feature selected.
Also attached is a plan that I made with the type of selection that I want.

Sorry, I wasn't clear, In that hierarchy list are things like cross section lines and the coordinate XYZ trident thingy it's not just features.

CAD Model Comparison will sometimes get rid of the phantom geometry. This can be found in CAD > CAD File > Cad Model Comparison. Click Comparison then highlight the feature(s) then Apply. This does not always work though.
Another area I have seen is in the CAD hierarchy there is an extra entity for the feature sitting all by itself. Deleting that will occasionally fix the problem.
At last resort I will extract the feature again, Paintbrush all the pertinent information and delete the old. Yeah it's a pain.
I have never heard of a good explanation as to the cause so I can't say where it is coming from, but on the other hand I haven't seen it in a while.

They are not even CAD entities as far as I can tell. Instead, they look like the calculated geometries created by the measurement plan (like 3 points to create a plane type stuff).

I was thinking the same as Zach. Did you give that a try? Like some one else mentioned, you may have to do a CAD model comparison if that feature was not extracted from the model and that don't always seem to get rid of it.

I did try all suggestions (I'm not about to ignore good-spirited advice), its just that none of them worked. I even saved the file as XXXtest and completely deleted everything (characteristics, features, and the CAD model itself). I loaded a CAD model into this now empty program, and got the same problem.
I then did the EXACT same thing with a brand new program, and did not have the problem.
I am almost certain that this is NOT phantom geometry that needs to be fixed. I believe that it is a setting in the program that somebody changed.

That "extra" geometry usually appears after a new (modified) CAD model has been loaded into an existing plan. When a new model is loaded (and the old one deleted), all features lose their bindings to the model faces (the information that enables Calypso to highlight them in pink). When Calypso is unable to find an associated CAD face for a feature, it displays that extra geometry for planes, cylinders and I think cones and spheres.
CAD model comparison can restore the model binding, but only if the nomials of the feature correspond with the size of the CAD face. For example, if a plane consists of more than one separate CAD faces, you select one of them to generate the feature, but put probing points on all of them. Then Calypso extends the nominal size of the plane to cover all points. This is when CAD comparison can fail because nominal and face are of different size.

If CAD comparison doesn't solve the problem, the alternative is what Zach suggested. You won't get back the pink highlighting that way, but at least you have free sight. If that method STILL doesn't work for you, I think you should post your plan here. Maybe it got corrupted in some way.

Guys, stop trying to 'fix' 'phantom geometry'.
The geometry is CORRECT. I just don't want to see it.
It is NOT something that needs to be deleted.
IT IS A SETTING THAT I SAW THE PREVIOUS GUY TURN ON AND OFF WITH THE CLICK OF A MOUSE.
I just don't know where that click is.

I think the button you are after is the "Show CAD Model" to eliminate the geometry view. Bottom CAD Toolbar, mine is the 3rd from the left.
I have no use for the three buttons and had forgotten all about them

Norbert did a great job explaining why this happens and the solutions offered of cad comparison is the only thing that works BUT not all the time.

There is no magic switch to keep it from happening every time and the only choices you have is (1) cad comparison (2) toggling between the 3 buttons at the bottom that Michael mentioned but, you'll have to do every time if you want to see the feature without the phantom plane and (3) as you've already found out, create a whole new program.
*#@!! yep and $%*&#! again.

What I like to do in such a scenario is turn the above options on. As a personal preference it is more aesthetically pleasing to me.

That way I can see what the selected feature is measuring whether I am looking at surfaces or wire frame.

Poor Greg, Nobody is reading his posts.

Greg, please post a screenshot of the opened feature window connected to the first picture you posted.

This is the option you are looking for

Show 3d geometry Features on CAD Model - toggles features WITH CAD reference

Show 3d geometry Features without CAD reference - toggles features WITHOUT CAD reference

Greg, I've had the same thing happen while tabbing thru the buttons on the left side of the cad view screen. Unfortunately, I can't fix it either. Easy to make happen, no off switch available.

I've also had trouble with this. It's a real bugger. It survives everything listed here, program revisions, and Calypso installs. I've had momentary success with various stuff, but nothing sticks.

And what's with the 11,000 views for this post?

CAD model comparison works maybe 50% of the time. The only real way to do it (that I know) is to delete the feature and remake it.

It's quite hilarious when the new geometry is much larger that the part itself though.
