[Me...]
I have an engine cylinder that I want to know is timed correctly to the exhaust port which is cast Aluminum. I need to take points on either side to do this. How do I hold the probe in the correct location without is wanting to come up to a clear plane and then back down again? The exhaust port breaks into the cylinder bore, I could just use move points in PC-DMIS. The bore is the datum X Y on the part. Thanks
[Mi...]
I think you're looking for CMM Position - This allows you to move the probe to a specific location in order to clear objects (Fixtures, parts, and everything else that could get in the way) Its under the Strategy menu in the box I highlighted (See attached) - One thing to make sure is that the probe angle/stylus used is the same as the feature, otherwise it will try to rotate on you in the middle of the part ... Let me know if that is what you're looking for, if that's not it, perhaps somebody else will be able to answer!CMM Position.png
[Mi...]
I would use a sub clearance plane set to 0. That was the probe does not come all the way out to the CP set up for the prg. I use those a lot. Just have to watch it in blind holes and Id run it SLOW until I knew it was going to work. Ex... If I have a 25mm bore and I set up a pattern to check the ID at 2mm intervals for the whole depth, I will set up the Sub CP so that it will take one ID and jump to the second one without coming all the way out of the bore ID. (If that makes sense lol.)
[Ow...]
You being new to Calypso, I should mention that you can also select "no" clearance. When you select the clearance plane, at the top is a blank spot you can click on and the probe will not move at all.selecting no clearance.jpg
[Me...]
Thanks guys for your assistance, I managed to measure the points by using the "position CMM without probing." 🙂
