How to have a surface roughness value

Hi I want to know how to calculate the surface roughness of a section of a mesh. Take this one in the image below as an example:

I know perfectly well that 3d Scanners are not made to detect surface roughness nor they possess the resolution to detect it. But i'd like to know the range between peaks and valleys of this little ceramic tile. 

How would you do it?

Hello,

there is no dedicated check for roughness, but if this is a check already (for example dXYZ against nominal) you can check the inspection element for "Form change rate". This will give you the range inside of the defined search distance. The search distance is like a selection inside a sphere with a diameter of the defined search distance and inside this selection the min and max value are detected. The difference is the range and the point on the section is given that range value.

Thanks Nanno, I'm afraid there is no nomianl here, it's just a piece of ceramic carelessly floating in space. I'm not interested in "Range" per sé. I'd like to have something like this:

But as You mentioned, there is no specific tool to evaluate this pattern.  

 

If You happen to come up with other ideas please share.
