Send me your XXT disk probe file

If anybody has a working disk probe on an XXT, you should export the probe file to your download folder, then attach it to an email and send it to me. (email in my profile)

A while ago i asked about disk styli and a couple people sent me "ZEISS Metrology Expert Tip" brochure, which basically says you can't use a disk, but if you want to anyway to contact them. I contacted them thru the link provided, and so far i haven't heard anything.

So if anybody has a working file ill take it and adjust the radius and z distance and see if it'll work for me.

Two paragraphs above your outlined text sounds very similar to my post on how to qualify Disk styli.

Butt, I wouldn't mind knowing what the Zeiss special routine is.

For what it's worth. I have in the past (before we got a second Contura with a Vast Gold XT) used disc styli with an XXT.

We shipped product to the customer and never had a negative issue regarding measurement results.

Did not work.

I loaded it in, deleted everything but the -Z styli, edited the radius and Length, but when i went to calibrate it was an automatic calibration and it tried to do it like a sphere.

Is there a special way that you calibrate the disk?

I don't see "manual" option anywhere, which is what i was hoping for.

Unfortunately, that is the very reason Zeiss does not recommend using a disc on XXT heads.  There is no option to calibrate it like there is for XT heads.

Basically if you want accuracy, you have to keep tweaking the size and locations compared to another probe inside the probe settings for the disk in order to properly calibrate it.  And my recommendation is that if you're using the disc rotated to an angle, make sure you set your ring gage at that angle as well.

All XXT styli must first be qualified with 180° of sphere coverage under "Passive Qualification". This cannot be over-written even though the sphere coverage dialog implies you can set to a lower value.  The qualification still defaults to 180° on the first qualification.  Yes, there is a "workaround" to trick the CMM into qualifying a disc on an XXT but this is not supported by ZEISS nor can it be advised on how to perform.  All I will say is it is a "physical" method to trick the CMM and information exists on YouTube to accomplish.  Be warned, accuracy will suffer, your accuracy specs for your machine will no longer be valid while using a disc stylus on an XXT.

Woo Hoo, i found a workaround!!

I wont post the link, but on Youtube there is a video named "How to Use a Disc Stylus with ZEISS VAST XXT - main disc", its got all the info you need and then some.

Basically, run calibration with a sphere, make a couple measurements with the sphere, swap the sphere out with a disk and edit the Geometry of the Disk radius and Z length.

Now retake the same measurements with the disk and edit the geometry again for X Y and R. Do this until all your measurements are perfect.

Double check diameters of several ring gages and with a couple other stylus systems.

Set your qualification to never expire, don't tell anybody what you did.
