Hi everyone,

I have a question about the "Distance" function on Calypso software.

What is the real difference between the 3d distance and the R distance like my picture?

Thank you very much

Nicolas, you should be able to see the difference if you put 1 circle/radius higher or lower then the other.

Hallo,

den Unterschied siehst du erst wenn die Kreise auf zwei verschiedenen Höhen liegen.

Radial distance typically refers to the distance from a center point to a point in space in a straight line. It is most commonly used in polar coordinate systems. For example, lets say you had a 120mmx5 bolt hole pattern on a wheel. You measure the center point of the wheel and then each of the five holes for the lugs. You create 3d lines from the center of the wheel to center point of the lug hole and project each line to the same plane. Now you can measure the polar distance of each lug from the wheel center (nominal 60mm).

3d distance or simple distance is the straight line distance between two points in 3d space. Using the wheel again, this would be the same measurements, but without the 3d lines being projected to the same plane. The distance would simply be the distance in 3d space from the center of the wheel to the center of the lug hole.
