Offline Planner Question

I am looking at purchasing the offline programming software. My question is, can you import any type of file (.dmi, .dmo, .txt, ascci) etcetera, into a program?

My intent is to try to bring in a program from another source.

This is a DMIS Import option that you can purchase, but I would strongly suggest you have this demonstrated for you before making this purchase. The Importer can struggle if the DMIS program is extremely complex.

Hi,

We run the offline planner on two stations since a few years. Always we import 3D Grafic by STEP import.

Sometimes the roundness of cylinders or radii is relatively poor in the view even if the highest display quality is selected. Likewise, surfaces are often not recognised as contiguous. In general, the ‘Model revision’ -> ‘Correct boundary curves’ should therefore be carried out before working with the components.

Incidentally, there are always blatant problems with the planner in terms of recognising collisions, the speed at which memory is used, stability (Calypso crash, lost of data .. ) and the import of probes. Likewise, some machines, e.g. CONTURA, are not displayed in all sizes. Positioning the components in the measuring room is very time-consuming and error-prone. The simulation of the probe change only works for very specific magazines.

From time to time, the planner loses the alignment of the base system, which can sometimes be repaired by resetting the base system. Rarely is this beyond repair! The planner software will NOT be further developed and NO bugs will be fixed. The support ( in Germany ) for the planner is not very good. The software seems to be quite unpopular at Zeiss.

You should consider this before you buy the software or clarify with the Zeiss distributor exactly which functions Zeiss guarantees.

Best Regards
Karsten

I stopped using any of the fancy features of Planner (CMM display, recreating fixture elements and probe racks on the granite snd so on) years ago. All of this stuff is not really working properly. The only thing I need and use is probe simulation and collision detection. I never display the CMM and if I place a part on the table it's only to prevent false collisions during stylus changes. Collision detection works quite well if you have good model data and learn to ignore some quirks (like the probe head moving right through the granite when approaching the part from the rack). But nevertheless I would never trust a simulation-proof program on the physical CMM right away.

I worked on the DMIS translator with ZEISS Germany and the translator works great. You will have to monitor OEM specific things like reports, graphs, etc… The native DMIS code doesn’t handle this well because it’s been the responsibility of the OEM. All your datum, feature measurements will all be there and work properly. I tested both DMIS and the PC-DMIS translators and both work very well and worth the expense.

Hello Mark, long time. This very good to know. I have a few thousand programs that I would like to translate from the "Demon". But I also have DMIS code from Origin Checkmate.

This is 100% incorrect.  Its not my place to reveal details but the next 4-16 months should be proof enough.

I hope so. I've been waiting for a fix on XTR rotation simulation for months and been told by support the fix is coming in the next service pack. I don't know why, but it gets broken practically every second service pack. Got tired of submitting reports already.

Hi Jeffrey,
Thanks for your hint.

Fakt is, that UNTIL NOW, current Planner version will not be developed any more and no bugs are fixed.  If you by this software NOW you get what I described.

It's great to hear that there will apparently be a new development for Planner and that this may be available to customers in a few years' time.
Nevertheless, it should not be concealed that the current state is not what a customer might expect.
If a customer buys the Planner NOW, he will have to cope with it for a few more years.
