Surface repair options

Hello, I am a beginner level user in Zeiss Correlate. I have the entire set of images of a tensile test that is captured with Aramis. As the strain is large, I am having missing data problem after 40% deformation as some points can not be tracked. This causes gaps on the surface of the specimen which increase in number as the deformation proceeds further.

How can I fill these gaps effectively with interpolation? Do I need to do this operation for all the visible stages one-by-one until necking and failure? So far I tried the options Section>Close gaps, Mesh>Repair, Mesh>Close holes interactively but could not proceed fully with any of these options.

Dear Erencan,
You can close the gaps in the surface component using the expert parameters before you create the surface component in the creation dialogue in the expert parameters or after creating it by clicking F4 on the generated surface component in the explorer
as shown in the attached image.

Usually, you can close the majority of the smaller holes with the sizes 1 to 2. With larger interpolation sizes, GOM recommends viewing the evaluated results critically. Here is the Tech-Guide Artikel :ZEISS Quality Tech Guide

Hi Erencan,

some additional thoughts:
the method Mohammed mentioned is technically correct.
But anyways, I would take a few steps beforehand, as 40% strain are typically no problem for correlate algorithms.
Thus please check your image quality (lighting, sharpness, ...) and facet sizes according to your pattern (as a rule of thumb, there should be about "3-5 dots of black on white per facet")!
You can also use a polygon to mask out your surface component in the image. This also increase the quality at the edges of your specimen (and also speeds up computation;-).
If you would like to have some comments/recommendations, please feel free to post a screenshot of your creation of your surface component.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Thorsten

Dear Mohamed and Thorsten,

Thanks a lot for your helpful suggestions. I tried the interpolation size adjustment and I was able to close the gaps yet the interpolation did not fill the data very accurately.

I also checked the image and pattern quality from the software. It is always higher than a certain value, which made me try to find other potential causes. My opinion is that I need to increase the total number of images (right now it is 180, while Aramis allows for 900) by optimizing the test rate and the imaging frequency.

I would like to ask another question with this chance. Right now, I am using free and limited version of Zeiss Correlate. I can not export diagram contents as a tabular data. Is this option only available in Professional version?

Thanks again for your kind feedbacks.

Best Regards

Erencan
