CAD export

Is it possible to somehow export the CAD file initially imported into the project?

It is a real limitation not to be able to do so, at least the export of the original file should be possible, all other metrology software do it.

Hello,

We can export a CAD file that was initially imported into the project by selecting File>Export>Elements> Selected Elements Only. With the CAD selected in the explorer menu.  This will give you a zelements file that you can use with future ZEISS INSPECT projects. We do not have the option at this time to export the originally imported CAD file as any current common CAD file types.

However with the 2025 software, we do have an option to export a CAD model that you create from your mesh as a STEP file. See the Tech Guide article below for more details regarding that function.

I would also like to encourage you to put any feature requests you may have such as, The ability to export the originally imported CAD file, into My Voice.

im curious which other metrology packages allow the re export of original cad files in native format.

The argumentation not to be able to do this iin the past was that if you are working on inspecting the cad model then you would by default have access to the original without the need of exporting it.

In the properties of the CAD element it will tell you the import path of where it was imported from so you can know exactly what was used .

Out of curiosity what is your use case/ workflow ?

I know that ZEISS CALYPSO allows you to save/export the CAD model in formats for which you have a license. That is, you can always do the CALYPSO native ".sat" or ".sab" format or even ".stl" all for free, but if you want to export in ".stp" then you need the license. Most customers choose step as their free license option (the other choice is ".igs").

Use Case: I am performing a metrology inspection on an urgent upcoming job and was given a CAD in ACIS format (".sab"). I want to 3D print a part to test my fixture and my printer doesn't take ACIS.
