Ziess Contura - VAST XXT - Machine Seems To Be Slower.

Hi Guys,

For some reason , this cmm seems to be running slower than usual.  Ive checked the speed in all the locations in Ziess Calypso software.  The strategies are set the best way possible.  Its getting about 4.94 bar air pressure.  Ive noticed that the company has installed more machines around the Metrology lab.  Could it be a power issue?   When the head is rising from a low position to a higher position, it seems to be taking longer.  Rotation for the vast xxt seems to be taking a little longer as well.  Luckily we do have a calibration guy coming in this month.  Is there any advice or something I can check and confirm?

First, and easiest thing, make sure the speed knob is at 100%.  Rotate it counter clockwise to slow it down and then clockwise to full stop.  Look at the output on the screen to ensure it says "100%" when you put it to max speed.

In your Pre-start run screen, make sure the speed of the CMM is set properly (300 or vMax is highest speed for that machine).  These are really the only two settings that can affect the machine performance.  Air pressure wont effect it as it either has enough or it will shut down.

Disconnect from CALYPSO and run the machine manually from the control box.  If you still see the problem, request a Service ticket.  If the problem goes away then it is a setting in CALYPSO

When I rotate the knob from 0 to 100 , it goes to varying 85-95% . Ive done it 20 times, it never says 100%. There's a warranty sticker on the back. We've had the machine for about 4 years now.

Are you running your programs from a network location, or the local desktop?

Its local.  It has to be the something wrong with the knob , because it never reached 100%.

Is the Key next to the emergency stop button on your machine in the "AUTO" position? I am not familiar with this, but I think it could slow the machine down if it's in the wrong position. Take a look at the post I just made about it. Martin responded to it.

This is very likely your problem.  You likely need a new control box.  It should go to 100% at full rotation.  Likely someone has damaged the knob mechanism.  Request a service ticket and your local HW Tech Support can assist in diagnosing.
