[Ja...]
Z axis collided with the workpiece during a program prove-out. None of the axes appear to be near their hardware limits and the encoders are showing green, as if they're still reading the scales, but the drives will not engage. I've tried power cycling twice and the air pressure is 72psi. Machine is a big MMZ-B running Calypso 2020. Controller is a C99. Any input is appreciated. As far as collisions go, Z axis ones are the most fatal. Any error codes? Probably going to have to call the help line.
[Ja...]
I wasn't the the one running the machine at the time, so I'm not sure how fast it was moving. Considering it was a prove-out, I'm assuming not too fast. The only downside to these large CMMs is the shear length of Z axis - any collision causes it to act like a giant lever or force multiplier, increasing any stress. We were able to have Zeiss remote in and look at the error logs. The drive motors had entered some protection or self-preservation mode that could only be reset internally through the "CMM Mini Commander" application - so, beyond anything we could do. She's back up and running, but has obviously been knocked out of square. Annual calibration is in like 3 months, but we might have to push that forward now.
