[FL...]
what is the best way to get profile of a cone. Im assuming i need to create a free form surface from the cone, how do i do this the correct way?
[Ri...]
Surface Profile will allow you to use a Cone without the need of FFS.
[FL...]
I can’t do surface profile of the cone to AB, it needs 3 datum’s, but print is to AB. A is a plane, B is a cylinder.
[Ri...]
You can, you will need to use the Datum B as the Tertiary as well. But please let me know if the Cone is Concentric to Datum B.
[Ri...]
The thing to keep in mind is that the "trick" I posted above only works if a Best-Fit isn't required. So if the Cone is supposed to be Concentric to B and Perpendicular to A, then most likely no Best Fit is required, unless you are needing to allow translation between the Cone and Datum A. If you need Best-Fitting then you will need to either use the new GD&T engine, or use a Free-Form surface in the legacy.
[FL...]
The cone is on the opposite side of datumB the cylinder, so it would be concentric I assume
[To...]
If you create a Freeform Surface, Profile will let you use A and B only. Create Freeform Surface from Special Geometries, recall feature points from Cone. Select cone surface from CAD model. OK

[Ky...]
As stated above by others, there are ways around needing to do this as a freeform. They are discussed in this knowledge base document: https://portal.zeiss.com/knowledge-base?id=868503 Alternatively, if you are running 2023 or 2024, I believe this is no longer necessary.
