What are some reasons for this error?

Micura Calypso v2017 6.4.16

I'm guessing air might be one, but in the Status Window I do not see anything about "Drives Off".

I am seeing this quite often, especially after a calibration (no disrespect meant).

One other thing I have noticed on the same CMM, is the control box locks very quickly. You can hardly get time between moving the CMM manually and creating a feature and its locked again.

Our Contura's are always supposed to be at 5.0 bars of air pressure. I would confirm that your air pressure settings on the CMM are correct, and then try to turn the drives back on via the Controller.

Long story short, I'm thinking the air pressure might be out of the allowed range. This will cause the drives to pop on and then immediately off when pressing the button on the controller.

Richard, We had the same issue arise with our Zeiss Prismo 12/18/10, which was installed in 2008.  After a few days of limping along (we brought back partial function by cleaning the glass scales), we had the motor replaced by a service technician.  After examining the old motor, he could feel something was not turning smoothly and concluded it was the motor.

Let's assume the motor was at the end of its life and it just took something to 'push it over the edge'.   I wonder if that something may have been a probing strategy involving short, repeated movements and accelerations contained in the CMM program I last ran.  The CMM is heavily used by production on generally much larger parts.  But this special program I was running before the failure is a small 60mm wide impeller with several vanes.  This being a CMM with a larger volume means a lot more mass having to be repeatedly moved and placing more demand on the motor.

Anyway the boss has decided not to allow impellers to be measured on that machine anymore, as the downtime and hit to production was painful.

Does anyone care to comment on the above theory?

Thank you,
