Profile / Lead Crowning

How does gear pro determine the "end high point" and "start high point" positions when activating crowning? How much of an impact do those values have if I set the crowning eval length (for this example in the yellow triangle drop down next to Ch) to match my involute profile eval?

Isaias, You mentioned Profile evaluation, is the for profile or lead ? Either way settings appears similar

I believe on the crowning tab there you can also set 'user-defined' and high point eval range for the crowning. I would guess the eval range whether here or default or in the yellow drop down, does have an effect.  you could try with a .act file changing settings to find out.

Isaias, you ask for how GEAR PRO involute selects the yellow marked positions when you activate crowning?

Well, there is not really an automatism in the background.
On some drawings the zone where the high point of the crowning has to be is tolerated.
If so, you´ll find in profile direction two diameters inbetween the high point has to be.
Then you would enter those two diameters in the green boxes for "Start high point" and "End high point".

You ask a second question how it influences the evaluation length of the crowning in the sub-dialog:

Be aware, that we talk now about two different characteristics.
The selection of "High point" "Start and End" will influence the characteristic "Profile-Position of High Point (dc)" while the evaluation lenght definition will influence the actual value of "Profile-Crowning (Ch)"!
One is position and the other is actual value of the crowning.

Roman / Chris, thank you both! I spent some time messing around with positions and it definitely plays a part in value reported.
