Strange scans from L probes on RDS XXT Sensor.

What could cause an L probe to create nominals like these in the images attached.

Also note, when the L probe is scanning the circle the Y axis oscillates approximately 140microns on one CMM and appears to be worse on another CMM.

The vector direction changes at 180° to the opposite.

The probe tip is not in contact with any other surfaces during the circle scan.

I use these types of L-probes a lot and don't see the problem you are seeing. Could the ruby have an imperfection on it? A crack, flat spot, a chip, etc.

This is typical for the XXT sensor due to way the probe deflects. Nothing to see here.

This doesn't happen on my CMMs. Particularly the oscillation of the Y axis.

On the affected CMM's (another shop), when the part is aligned to .0004" or less (In the X axis) the Y axis moves +Y .005-.006" and then at 180° of the circles, moves back -Y .005-.006" (Approximately 140 micron)

I performed the same test on my CMM's, and the Y axis movement was nearly unnoticeable on an .0005" indicator.

Whether using a VAAST XT, or RDS XXT I have never seen this before using any type of probe configuration.

I see it all the time when using a star or horizontal stylus.  Just to be clear, I am referring to the change in the probe vectors. I’m not sure where you are picking up the oscillation values from.

I also verify that I am maintaining at least a 3 to 1 ration of form to sigma. Quite often it is 10 to 1.

Odd that I have never seen this and I always pay attention to the touch or scanned points.

The oscillation, I think is due to third party calibration.

Thank you, it's still odd I have not seen this before.

Can an Admin remove the first image in my first post of this thread?

Thank you.
