Universal Start Alignment for Related Parts / Programs

Hey Guys,

I have a quick question that I'm sure some of you experience with.

Can someone explain the steps to using the same Start Alignment in all my programs that have a similar part?

I have a basic 3-2-1 Alignment in the first program written in Calypso Planner and the Start Alignment works great in that program.

The problem comes when i try to load this start alignment in other programs.

When i select this Start Alignment, the probe head just travels to it's limit switch in the +Z direction, and if i choose Start Alignment>Manual Alignment, i get the same exact error. It's as if Calypso doesn't know where the Start Alignment is for this part (though it was just ran in a previous part).

Any guidance or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you establish the base alignment first?  When you create the start alignment, it relates to the base alignment.  If you didn't create one, the base alignment is equal to the machine coordinate system.

Hi Tom,

My apologies for not mentioning this in the original post—yes, I do have a Base Alignment active in all the programs I've written.

I believe I figured out the issue yesterday. When I selected "Load Start Alignment," I thought that completed the process. But it turns out that Calypso just loads those features into the list, allowing you to select them in the new program. I didn’t realize that you still have to manually choose the start alignment features from the original program in the new one. So essentially, “Loading the Start Alignment” just makes those features available—it doesn’t automatically apply them.

I was also choosing the wrong option when prompted to "Move" or "Compute." Intuitively, I kept selecting "Compute," thinking Calypso was asking whether it should calculate a new location. But I now realize that "Move" is the correct choice to preserve the original Start Alignment location. Once I selected "Move" and re-created the Start Alignment in the new program, everything ran smoothly.

The remaining issues I’m seeing seem to be related to the CAD model itself—but that’s a separate problem entirely.

As always, I appreciate your help, Tom!
