[da...]
Hi All, 1) How often are you all calibrating your stylis systems on the RDS rotating head. I'm calibrating almost every morning. Just the stylii I'm using for the day.Exception to the rule is if I have a large part that is going to take me a few days. 2) How often should I be calibrating when I use the RDS with RCCA, and what would be the tightest tolerance you use the RCCA with. I'm sure this question has been answered many times before, so thanks for your input.
[Cl...]
That depends on how much your CMM is being used throughout the week. If you are constantly running production 24/7, then you would want to qualify more frequently. If there were any crashes. You would re-qualify obviously. As an example, we run production 5-6 days a week over two shifts, and I qualify the styli once a week. That seems to be working out just fine. I would run the Qualify passive once a month to calculate the bending parameters. Then the Geometry Re-Qualification (6 Points) once a week. As far as the RCCA, I don't use that. [Ri...]
We have two Micuras running 24/7, styli qualification is every Monday morning. We switched from daily to weekly after tracking inspection production and qualifications for a year. We also have three Conturas, qualification is every 30 days, these are not running 24/7 but do run quite often. One Contura uses VAST XTR and RDS CAA, I record all qualifications and perform tests in between. All of this data goes to an Excel file to aid in styli capability, accuracy and repeatability (Basically an MSA). Visual inspection of styli is performed weekly or as needed.

Environments vary, doing a study is the precise way to find the exact expiration date for your styli qualificaiton. If you cannot do a study, as often as practicle would be best. [An...]
Please sign in to view this quote. RDSCAA I believe goes from a repeatability from around 1.7 micrometers to ~10-15x that value. Depending on machine and setup.
